Don't be Fooled by the Cuteness!

Izzy may look cute and innocent now, but I doubt you would have the same opinion of this sweet little darling if she kept you up all night as she has done to us the past three nights. Okay, maybe you would…she is pretty sweet, but seriously, what’s going on??? Just as we were starting to get comfortable around here, Izzy has us on our toes again. She has woken up the last three nights between 2 - 4am and DOES NOT go back to sleep for several hours. Last night (or this morning, I should say) she was up from 2 - 6am! To quote the always enlightening Tamra from the Real Housewives of Orange County, “Housewife say what?!?!?”

The poor baby has been really congested lately, so that may be waking her up. She saw her pulmonologist last Friday for her RSV shot, and she checked out fine. She started sounding a little worse over the weekend, so we took her to the pediatrician Monday afternoon. Again, lungs, ears, nose, all good. Just upper airway congestion. Her doc suggested we try Benadryl and some nasal drops. We did that for three nights, two of which were horrible, so we dropped the meds last night to see if that was causing the problem , but things didn’t get any better. So frustrating!!!

We’ve heard her “I’m in pain cry” before, and this is not what we’ve been hearing the last three nights. It’s more like, “I’m wide awake…let’s party!” And so she does…she parties for several hours before drifting off to sleep again. We don’t want to teach her any bad habits, so we aren’t quick to pick her up, but after checking on her multiple times and letting her cry (for too long to mention on this blog, as Papa and Meme are reading, and they would call CPS on me for letting their granddaughter cry) it becomes obvious that she is just as stubborn as her momma, so we pick her up, rock her, change her, I even gave her a bottle one night and the biggest no-no of all, we’ve brought her to our bed. NOTHING WORKS!

It’s so weird because her days haven’t been affected. You’d think she would be sleeping all day to make up for the lost sleep, but no. She’s still taking one decent nap in the morning and a short one in the afternoon. And she hasn’t been fussy or anything during the day. I am hoping and praying that this is just a short phase and she’ll get back to normal sleeping again soon. Up until this point, she would occasionally wake at night, but we’d just go in her room, give her a passy, tuck her in, and she’d fall right back to sleep without us having to pick her up. She's lucky she's so darn cute!

So, to all you experienced parents, what should we try next if this madness continues???
